Invisible Braces in Lacey, Tacoma, and Tumwater
When people think of braces, they think of teenagers and adolescent coming-of-age. Culturally, braces are a rite of passage, even though the “metal-mouth” smiles from the 60s and 70s are fading from common sight.
But not everyone has the opportunity as children to have their teeth straightened for a number of reasons.
If you’re one such adult, you don’t have to suffer from misaligned teeth or the indignities of metal brackets and wires! It’s not easy to command authority in a professional setting with metal braces, not to mention other aspects of adult life.

Straight Teeth Are Better For Your Health
Misaligned teeth are more than just a cosmetic issue. When your teeth aren’t properly aligned, they can trap food particles and be more challenging to clean. This can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. If untreated, this can lead to bleeding gums and possible tooth loss. Straight teeth are an important part of a healthy smile.
If you have crooked teeth or gaps between your teeth, you could benefit from straightening your smile. Not only will you enjoy how your new smile looks, you improve your overall health.
What Are Invisible Braces?
Invisible braces are a system of crystal-clear aligners that fit snugly over your teeth to gently nudge them into their proper location. Treatment times and costs are comparable to conventional metal braces, but you get to skip all the usual hassles!
At Tranquility Dental Wellness Center, we use the Invisalign system to give our patients beautifully aligned and healthier smiles. All our patients who used Invisalign are thrilled with their results and their treatment plans.
What Is the Difference Between Traditional Braces and Invisible Braces?
Traditional braces use brackets connected by wires or elastics that move your teeth into alignment. These are the braces we commonly associate with youth and adolescence.
Invisible aligners are translucent, clear plastic mouthpieces that slip over the teeth. Aligners are removable, and each set is worn for a short period before moving on to the next set. Through this process, the teeth are gradually shifted into their desired position.
Am I a Good Candidate for Invisible Braces?
If you have any of the following orthodontic issues, you may be a candidate for invisible braces:
- Crooked teeth
- Misaligned teeth (teeth are not aligned correctly when the mouth is closed)
- Overbites or underbites
- Teeth gaps
- Crowded teeth
- Overlapping teeth
How Does Invisalign Work?
Getting started is easy. The first step is to call our offices in Lacey, Tacoma, and Tumwater to request a consultation with one of our dentists to discuss invisible braces.
We’ll perform a comprehensive assessment and determine whether Invisalign treatment is right for you. Invisalign is effective for most orthodontic treatment needs, but some cases (particularly when problems with the bite are included) may require conventional braces. We’ll let you know what you can expect.
Once we determine if you are a good candidate for invisible braces, we’ll plan your treatment out from start to finish! This is everyone’s favorite part. It’s exciting and fun to see what you’ll look like with your new smile! Your dentist will send your treatment plan to the Invisalign laboratory, where they will craft your aligners. Once your aligners are ready, you can return to our office. We’ll go over how to wear your aligners, when to switch them out, and how to properly clean them, and then you’ll be on your way!
The Advantages of Invisible Braces
The most obvious advantage of invisible braces is right in the name. They are virtually invisible. Even from up close, most people will not be able to see that you are wearing the aligners. This means you don’t have to feel self-conscious as you go about your normal professional life, even if that entails meeting with clients or giving presentations.
Another major benefit of the aligners is that you remove them when eating and to better clean your teeth. This means you don’t have to deal with the “forbidden foods” lists that are so common with conventional braces, and you don’t have to worry about the hassles associated with threading floss around brackets and wires. As long as you wear your aligners at least 22 hours a day, you will stay on track with your treatment plan.
Some of the many advantages over traditional braces include:
- Comfort – Metal braces are very irritating to the mouth, with brackets and wires that can cut the cheeks and gums. Invisible aligners are made from smooth plastic material that does not cut or irritate your mouth.
- Invisible –Most people won’t even know you’re wearing aligners unless you tell them.
- Hygiene – Traditional braces require you to be careful with the foods you eat to ensure nothing gets caught on the metal pieces. With aligners, you simply remove them before eating or drinking.
- Faster Process – Invisible braces are typically a quicker process than traditional braces and can be gentler on your teeth.
Can I Eat With Aligners On?
While you won’t be able to eat while wearing your aligners, you can easily remove them. It’s advisable to do this every time you eat or drink, then brush and floss your teeth reinserting your aligner. There are no types of food you cannot eat while wearing aligners. With invisible braces you’ll be able to maintain oral hygiene and enjoy any food you want.
How Do I Keep My Invisible Braces Clean?
Keeping your invisible aligners clean is simple and efficient. Dry saliva and plaque can trap foul-smelling bacteria; regular brushing and rinsing will help remove bad bacteria. Cleaning your aligners with a clear antibacterial soap helps keep them clean and clear.
Brush your aligners gently and with care, the plastic can be scratched if you are too rough. The best way to keep your invisible aligners clean is to keep up with your regular oral hygiene.
Contact our dental offices at any of our three locations, Lacy, Tumwater, or Tacoma to learn more about how easy invisible braces are to maintain.
Will Aligners Interfere With My Day-To-Day?
Your Invisalign aligners do not interfere with your daily routine. You simply take them out each morning and evening to brush and clean them. You will also need to take them out to eat or drink. You won't have to worry about food getting stuck in any wires. Invisalign keeps your teeth cleaner than traditional metal braces because you’re able to clean your teeth more efficiently. You can still maintain an active lifestyle with invisible braces since they act as a mouthguard.
How Long Does the Process Take?
Typically, the entire process may take nine months to a year or more. It really depends on the complexity of dental issues. Your Tranquility Dental Wellness dentist will be able to estimate this after your assessment.
